Welcome to Alpha Public School. We are proud of our dedicated, experienced staff and enthusiastic learners! Here is some important information you will need to know as you enter our School District. Should you need to talk with administration we ask that you contact the school at (908) 454-500 and make an appointment.
Attendance:
Regular school attendance and classroom interaction are important parts of the educational process. Our district urges parents/guardians to minimize the time their students are absent or late to class. School doors open at 7:50am and Homeroom promptly starts at 8:00am. If your child will be absent, you will need to call him/her out on our absentee line Call (908) 454-5000 and press option 1. Please leave a message for Mrs. Griffiths, our School Nurse. If your child is tardy, he/she will need to enter through the main office doors and be buzzed in.
Arrival Procedures:
We are a walking district. There is no busing available unless you live on the hazardous route. If that is the case, you will be informed upon the registration of your child. School doors open at 7:50am. Homeroom starts at 8:00am.
All Students enter the school by the gym.
K-5 Students go to the Cafeteria and line up with their class.
6-8 Students go to the Library and line up with their class.
Students arriving by car:
Vehicles pull up to the designated (denoted by signs) spot. Students are to exit your vehicle and walk through the doors. For the safety of children and staff, parents must remain in their car. Parents must wait in line to drop-off students. It usually takes only a couple of minutes before cars are able to pull away. When people pull out of line to go around others in front of them, it creates a real hazard. Please be patient and wait. If you choose to escort your child to the door, you must find a parking space and walk with them. We ask that parents not enter the building with their children. Any late student will need to enter the building through the main entrance near the flagpole. They will be buzzed in and will go to the main office for a late pass.
Dismissal Procedures:
Grades K-5 are dismissed at 2:35pm (12:35pm during an Early Dismissal)
Grades 6-8 are dismissed at 2:40pm (12:40pm during an Early Dismissal) If your child is not walking home, parents must find a parking space and walk to the door your child is exiting from and wait for them. For the safety of the children, under no circumstances are parents allowed to park and wait in the bus lane (designated yellow curbs) nor double park on the opposite side of the street.
Parent Access:
We have several ways of communicating with parents. Our Website www.apsedu.org, our Facebook Page, Alpha Public School, Alpha NJ and our Parent Portal at https://parents.c1.genesisedu.net.alpha. The Parent Portal can also be accessed on our website in the upper top right corner. It is mandatory to sign up in our Parent Portal in order for you to access your child’s grades and schedule. It is also very important to keep your contact and emergency contact information up to date. Through this Portal you will be able to access your child’s progress and view attendance. We strongly encourage you to also take advantage of our Website and Facebook Page. It is updated regularly and is an excellent way to stay up to date with the school news. We currently also use a platform called Blackboard Messaging, where we keep you up to date with texts and emails. Another reason why it is so important to keep your contact information as up to date as possible. You may notice a decrease in papers coming home from the school, they will be posted in the “documents” tab within the Portal.
PickUp Patrol:
Alpha Public School uses a system called PickUp Patrol to help us track dismissals, tardiness, and absences. PickUp Patrol provides you with a convenient way to make changes to your child’s dismissal, tardiness, or absence plans to help ensure that students are accurately accounted for each day. Our main office can provide you with a link to get started.
Cafeteria:
Alpha Public School currently utilizes Maschio Food Services as our Food Provider. Our School District uses a computerized point of sale system (POS) that allows students to purchase their meals and snacks. Parents are able to make payments online as well as send in money via check or cash and may pay in advance for purchases. All Students will be issued a Personal Identification Number (PIN) which corresponds to their food service account. PIN numbers should be kept confidential. Parents need to Log on to www.payschoolscentral.com. Select the “register” option from the menu. The screen will guide through the process to establish your account. You will need your child’s Student ID#, which will be provided to you. Should you have any questions please contact Brian Crawford at (215) 470-3824 or email bcrawford@maschiofood.com. Cafeteria Menus will be posted on our website as well as Facebook and the Parent Portal. You can also find them at Aps.nutrislice.com. Free and Reduced Applications can be found on our website as well as the Parent Portal.
